The Omaha Vineyard began as a handful of people formed a home group in 1994. This group met together for nearly two years to worship (often to Vineyard Music CD's),pray and seek God's guidance. Meanwhile, Scott and Lynette Ross began to sense that God wanted them to plant a church. At the Omaha group's invitation, the Ross' moved their family to Omaha from the Vineyard church in Monrovia, CA, in August of 1996. The Omaha Vineyard was officially planted in October of that year.

The group first met in a home, then at the Celebrations building at 96th and M Streets, and later moved to a classroom at the Westside Community Conference Center for Saturday night meetings. Easter of 1998 saw the step of faith of committing to the rental of the gymnasium at that building for Sunday morning services. After 6 years of summer Sundays with no air conditioning and drafty winter gatherings, the Omaha Vineyard took another step of faith and signed the lease on its current meeting place at 133rd and I Streets.

The Omaha Vineyard Church is part of an international family of Churches. The Vineyard movement began in 1974 with the establishment, in southern California, of the first Vineyard Church. It quickly became known as the Church for those "not at home" with other Churches. The "seeker friendliness" that characterized the early days of the Vineyard movements has become the foundation for the over 600 churches worldwide.

Vineyard Christian Fellowships typically experience:

1. Clear, accurate, Biblical teaching

2. Contemporary Worship in the freedom of the Spirit

3. The Gifts of the Spirit in operation

4. An active Small Group ministry

5. Ministry to the poor, widows, orphans, and those who are broken

6. Physical healing with special emphasis on Signs and Wonders as seen in the book of Acts

7. A Commitment to Missions: Church Planting at home and World Missions abroad

8. Unity within the whole Body of Christ, a relationship with other local churches

9. Evangelistic outreach

10. Equipping the saints in areas such as discipleship, ministry, serving, giving, finances, family, etc.
